Fun in Amsterdam
Amsterdam, here we come
We arrived in Amsterdam after midnight, and the hotel staff welcomed us with warm smiles and exceptional kindness. We settled into our modest room for a night’s rest.
The following morning, as is our custom, we began our day with coffee and pastries. Our excitement mounted as we embarked on an exploration of the city’s picturesque canal network.
The most enchanting neighborhood we encountered was the Jordan, characterized by its narrow streets and beautiful buildings, making it one of Amsterdam’s most sought-after districts. Here, one can find independent art galleries, antique shops, charming courtyard gardens, and an abundance of bars and restaurants tucked away in its winding alleys. While strolling, we couldn’t resist the temptation to sample a Dutch specialty—a herring cart delicacy—perfectly complemented by the local Heineken beer.
We continued our journey, immersing ourselves in the magical atmosphere of the city, passing through the famous red-light district en route to the iconic Dam Square.
dedicated to art
On the second day of our visit, we dedicated our time to the world of art. Visiting the Van Gogh Museum required advanced ticket purchases, typically about two weeks in advance. The museum’s modern and impressive architecture greeted us, and the entrance line moved swiftly. Soon, we found ourselves standing before the artist’s masterpieces, marveling at the vivid colors and skilled brushwork. Later, we were drawn to the nearby Museum of Modern Art. Both museums are situated within a spacious garden, where families relax on the grass among scattered sculptures. We also squeezed in a satisfying meal at an Asian restaurant to quell our growing hunger.
Canal cruise
The next day, we embarked on a canal cruise, opting for a one-hour tour. Alternatively, there are tours with stops, allowing passengers to disembark at various points of interest. We chose the second option, this allowed us to spend an entire day exploring different parts of the city, from the scenic canals to the vibrant flower market and bustling pedestrian streets lined with street food stalls and souvenir shops, not to mention clothing boutiques and more.
Janvier – the source of gin
It’s worth mentioning the establishments that distill the Jenever drink. This beverage is distilled from wine and attains an alcohol content of 50%. The Dutch have skillfully blended this liquid with a variety of herbs, notably the juniper plant, renowned for its medicinal qualities. We had the pleasure of sampling several types, each of which pleasantly surprised us with its delicate flavor.
A’dam Tower
An interesting attraction that should not be missed, a visit to A’dam Tower. A ferry that stands behind the central train station will take you free of charge to the Migdal Adam complex. To access the observation deck with a panoramic view of the city, you will need to purchase a ticket. One of the unique highlights of this attraction is the roof swing that extends out from the tower. Those who dare to swing on it experience the feeling of floating in the air. The surrounding area is delightful for leisurely walks.
Finally, the day of our return to Tel Aviv arrived, and to our delight, it proceeded smoothly without any delays or complications. In conclusion, we can affirm that both cities offer intriguing and enjoyable experiences. However, I was taken aback by the cost of living, which was not significantly different from that of Tel Aviv.
